It's that time of year once again!

2019 Graduate Student Essay Prize in Comedy and Humor Studies

(SCMS- Society of Cinema and Media Studies)

Deadline = January 31, 2019

Prize Award = $250 USD

The Comedy and Humor Studies SCMS SIG is thrilled to announce its second annual Graduate Student Essay Prize. Articles must relate to comedy and humor studies, with an emphasis on media or the moving image, and will be judged by a panel of faculty and graduate students working in the field.

The winner will be awarded $250 and will receive mentorship and guidance on publishing the piece in a peer-reviewed journal.

-All entrants must be registered graduate students in a recognized program of study at the time of submitting their work to the competition.

-All entrants must be members of both SCMS and the Comedy and Humor Studies SIG.

-Essays should range between 5,000 and 8,000 words in length (including footnotes). Word and PDF formats are both acceptable.

-Essays may be adapted from coursework, a dissertation or thesis project, or a stand-alone work.

-Essays must not have been previously published or accepted for publication at the time of entry

(or while under consideration).

-Only one essay per entrant.

-Co-authored works will share the prize of $250 between the authors.

The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2019. The winner(s) will be announced at the SIG meeting at the Seattle SCMS conference in March 2019.
