The Comedy and Humor Studies SCMS SIG is thrilled to announce its annual Graduate Student Essay Prize. Articles must relate to comedy and humor studies, with an emphasis on media or the moving image, and will be judged by a panel of faculty and graduate students working in the field. The winner will be awarded a cash prize and will receive mentorship and guidance on publishing the piece in a peer-reviewed journal.
-All entrants must be registered graduate students in a recognized program of study at the time of submitting their work to the competition.
-All entrants must be members of both SCMS and the Comedy and Humor Studies SIG.
-Essays should range between 5,000 and 8,000 words in length (including footnotes). Word and PDF formats are both acceptable.
-Essays may be adapted from coursework, a dissertation or thesis project in process, or a stand-alone work.
-Essays must not have been previously published or accepted for publication at the time of entry (or under review).
-Only one essay per entrant.
-Co-authored works will share the prize between the authors.
The deadline for submissions is March 28, 2021.
